Pollinators

These bees, moths, bats, butterflies, wasps and midges are the real essential workers, pollinating all sorts of fruit-bearing plants. Without them, no pollination and no fruit.

What started as a year-long look at honey bees and Colony Collapse Disorder grew into a compilation of insects – and a few birds – that play a role in the pollination ecosystem: honey bees and solitary bees, bumblebees, wasps, hummingbirds, bats, butterflies, moths and even flies, each on an 8 × 10 inch wood panel.

The colours are too neon for a realistic depiction and too playful to match an entomologist’s collection of dead insects. Contrasting colours of background and foreground create a vibrant feel of energy.
